Description of three bike itineraries starting from the Post Alpina

General information:
36 km, 1.100 m of difference of height, 2,5 to 3 hours bike-ride
We start at Monguelfo, biking on the “Talblickweg” until Brückele, following the trail we pass the town Tesido, direction Mudler. Then there is the trail number 38A which brings us to the “Vorderalm”. Then there will be a difficult piece until we get to the “Hinteralm”. When you get there follow the trail number 31 B passing the “Brunnenwiese” until you get to “Mudler”. Than you turn direction “Oberstall”, leave the “Kimlehof” to your left and on a crushed stone way you will get to the yard, following the “Way of Jakob” you will get back to Tesido and than to Monguelfo.
Tour to the “Markinkele”

40 km, 1.500 m of difference of height, 4,5 to 5 hours bike-ride
We start at Dobbiaco, direction “Haselsberg” and follow the directions to the “Lachwiesenhütte”, we pass by the “Innichner Eck” and get to the “Silvester Yard”. Under the “Silvester Chapel” we use the old military road which brings us to the “Markinkele”. After a hard and long rise we will enjoy a wonderful view at 2.500 m. Now we bike back on small trails, biking on the high way of Dobbiaco back to the “Valley Silvester” we get back to Dobbiaco.

We start at “Schluderbach” and start directions “Cimabanche”. Before the Military barraks we pass the main road and take the military road number 8. Then there will be a hard rise. On the trail we will pass on different places that remember the war which has taken place in the Dolomites. At the “Forcella di Lerosa” we turn left and get to the “Rifugio Ra Stua”. From there we start do drive back down until “San Umberto” and than take the trail number 417 direction “Cortina”. Passing by at the camping we get to the trail 408 to Cadin, where we cross the main road once again and take the trail 208 back to “Cimabanche” and “Schluderbach”.
Tour to the Mount Elmo

a) At San Candido we take the bike-trail to Sesto, than we take the tramway to get to the Mount Elmo and from there starts the tour
b) We start at San Candido, take the “Burgweg”-Trail direction “Chapel of the forest”, pass the “Jägerhütte” and get to the restaurant on top of the Mount Elmo . Than we pass the rifugio “Gallo Cedrone”, after that we descend to the “Leckfeldhütte”. When we get to the “Forcherkaser” we turn left and go on until the “Pojaufer Kaser” until we get back to the town Versciaco. On the biketrail we go back to San Candido

We start at the tramway of the Mount Elmo at Sesto, than we pass the church of Sesto and bike direction “Mitterwald”. The trail number 13 will bring us to the “Negerdorf”, than there will be the trail number 136 first and afterwards the trail number 13 which brings us up to the “Alpe Nemes”. There starts the “Tour Contrabbandiere” which ends at the “Alpe Controndo”. Then there will be the trail number 149, than on the right site the trail number 149 A and than the trail 130. When you get to the Camping look for the trail number 13 A until you get to Moso and than back to Sesto.

We start at Monguelfo to the direction “Val Casies” until we get to “Oberplanken”, there you tunr right to get to the trail number 91. You will pass “Frondeigen” and go on to the “Valley Silvester” to the “Enzianhütte”. Passing through “Wahlen” you will get back to Dobbiaco on the bike-trail, than you get to the town “Villabassa”, at the exit of the town you turn left and follow to the “Gastegg-Hofstatt” until you get to “Schmieden”. Than you will follow the trail number 2 A until you get back to Monguelfo.

We start at Villabassa and get to “Eggerberg”. Then we follow a trail which passes by the “Mitterwald until we get to the “Stadlwiesen”. Then we follow the trail number 9 to the “Ratsberg”. When we reach the “Jörgerhof”, we descent the trail number 41 to “Gostner”. We pass Dobbiaco and get to the lake of Dobbiaco . We get to “Schluderbach” afterwards, than we turn right and take the ascent to get to the “Plätzwiesen”. The descent will be back to “Brüggele” where we continue on the trail number 37, until we get to Schmieden. We cross the main road and by “Hofstatt-Gastegg” we bike back to Villabassa.
EXCURSION TO LIENZ
The excursion from the Post Alpina continues easily for 2 hours over a slight descent until Lienz, the capital of the nearby Austrian region of eastern Tyrol . From there, you can take a train up to San Candido, in Alta Val Pusteria, and return by bike to the Post Alpina. There are three villages along the road to Lienz where it is possible to take a train back, if anyone doesn’t feel like continuing after biking 10 or 20 km.
ITINERARY FOR CONNOISSEURS TO THE SAN CANDIDO MOUNTAIN
From the Post Alpina cross the parking area of Monte Elmo and continue to the Almhof or just a bit further to the Kathi restaurant. After a pleasant gastronomic break continue toward the San Candido mountain up to Dobbiaco, from where you will return to the Dolce Vita Chalet through the woods.
The San Candido mountain is a classic bike itinerary during which you can admire incredible panoramic views over the entire Alta Val Pusteria.
Travel time: approx. 2 hours and 30 minutes.
ALPINE TOUR OF MONTE BARANCI
From the Post Alpina go to San Candido and continue toward Sesto along the Sesto river. At the intersection with the Campo di Dentro valley, the itinerary continues up to the Tre Scarperi Refuge, where everyone’s efforts will be rewarded with a grappa. Continue climbing to the San Candido mountain, known as Monte Baranci, and then descend to San Candido along the ski slope and return to the Post Alpina. The Monte Baranci tour is a very interesting itinerary that will take you into the heart of the legendary world of the Dolomites.
